Okay it's officially not Father's Day anymore in the Central Time Zone... so I can post a comic page with dead people on it.

Who is under the sheets? No one knows. Now no one can blame me for killing them in my comic. That's supposed to be Avery in the foreground btw being treated by Dr. Smart who has become a bit of a reoccuring character.

Ally has her heart in the right place, but she's a little skittish when it comes to war... plus she's always been a glass half-empty kinda girl when it comes to her own abilities.

To quote Katherine Janeway: "It's Crunch Time." Because of that, it's okay to call Sam "sir". =P

I smell a badass move filled with impossibility and a great amount of improv worthy of the Chief coming from Sam within a short time :paranoid::evillaugh:

...I really love Sam a lot, she's such a cool character :D

I'm positive the proper terminology is "ma'am" when addressing a female superior, but that's in real life. Science fiction sometimes doesn't make the distinction between male and female in terms of address (Battlestar Galactica is one example), and I can't remember if Halo falls into that category.

Real life is important though. Maybe I'll change it to "Sir... er.. Ma'am". I think I like the way it sounds better anyway.

I always (in my fictions) have the female addressed "sir" because it doesn't highlight that she's female.. just a superior. It's the tiny slice of feminism in me

I never really got that line of thinking, to be honest. Mostly because the English language doesn't have a gender-neutral form of respectful address, and in the military one is only referred to by their rank in official documents or when they're of lower rank. (Which is why two years ago it was such a amusing faux pas when Senator Barbara Boxer insisted of Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh that she be referred to as "Senator" instead of "Ma'am" during a Senate hearing, she was essentially telling the General to refer to her as a ranking inferior. Story [link] here.)

Personally I've always felt saddened by the fall of feminine terms in the English language. Yeah, I know, languages change over time, but it's still sad to know that many words that were once proper English now either get you blank looks or claims that you're making them up. Though I suppose that's the least of our problems as far as English speaking people speaking English goes.

I noticed that in the games, the female officers tend to referred to by either their rank ("Oh and Buck? Call me Captain": Halo 3 ODST)or simply as ma'am ("We're drifting, Ma'am": Halo 2)

Granted it's your fanfic so do as you will. I just remember the trouble I got into when I called a female officer "sir" by mistake.

I won't repeat what she said, but she cursed like a NCO...

Well, if the female officers in real life don't like being called sir then I should most definitely respect that! Next time I jump in the file I'll edit it.

At least Sam is keeping her head cool. Command thinking, excellent.

The question is, is she running off a plan, a tactically feasable move, or is she blindly hoping to not lose her big crush in green armor?
