101 Kirby - The Brave Little Toaster

What is a Heartblade? [link]
Other Heartblades: [link]

Okay okay, blame me for having a crush on a vacuum, but Kirby is one of those characters that compel me to watch their media over and over again. Forgetting the fact that he's an appliance, he's my favorite trope of grouchy-old-dude-determined-not-to-let-anyone-know-how-much-he-loves-them. I could describe all the places in the movie where he exhibits these traits, but it's one movie, you might as well watch it. It's one of those kids' movies with enough sophistication that grown ups don't feel like they're being lobotomized. It's a classic of my childhood, they don't make 'em like that anymore!

I think The Brave Little Toaster is probably Disney's most overlooked and underrated franchise. Sure, it wasn't actually made by Disney, and the movies themselves aren't exactly 100% perfect, but I once thought Toaster had potential to be great if worked upon more, and it CAN if people got interested in a fourth movie (not the supposed CGI reboot; a hand-drawn film that follows the first three films).

Yes! TBLT was a big part of my childhood!

Even though that Kirby was never really one of my favs, he was still a decent character.

Now that I dawn on the subject, he kind of reminds me of Doc Hudson from Cars...

Ah Kirby, once again Jameson you have reached into my inner child and woke it up. Kirby was one of my favorite characters in the movie (though my favorite was Radio) but Kirby added that much needed realist. (Not to mention if it wasn't for him, they would never of gotten to the Master)

For me, my "Kirby" was Ratigan from Great Mouse Detective. It's just fun peeling back the layers and reading into his character. Why does he have such a aversion to his true nature as a rat? Why does he repress so much of his inner emotions to hold up that dandy facade? ... Why all the pink and gold...?

Wow! Kirby with his keyblade! he looks fantastic here! :w00t: looks like "in action"! or something...It amazes me the fact you made him strike a cool pose, even if he doesn't have any arms to help in the expression, it's always difficult to animate limbless characters, to draw them in a pose, I love what you do when you draw him! The keyblade desing was very nice, I think it was a clever idea to use his cable to hold it, and the thing I loved most from it was the photo on the Master in it!! :icondaawplz: :excited: it fits really well, It is really his heart! I loved so much how in the movie they all were SO loyal to Rob! :aww: as well as he was very caring and protective with them :aww:
I LOVE Kirby! because although he’s always seems to look grumpy and he always avoid giving signs of affection, or even admitting he loves his friends! :giggle: , he’s willing to risk himself when one of his friends need help or is in danger! And that’s SO cute cos that makes us to see how much he really loves them!! Although he doesn’t proclaim it, but he doesn’t need to, cos we know inside us he actually would give his life for his friends! <3 And that’s when you think “I’d love to have a friend like him in real life!”
You know, I always thought he isn’t like that way just because “he’s doesn’t like to be sweet” or because “he’s old” like some people I’ve seen here said, but I think actually it’s because he’s one of those people who it’s too sensitive and therefore are a bit afraid of what may happen if he show his feelings to the others. I studied physiology because I love that subject, and yeah in real life people who are at that way, I always had the theory Kirby was one of those…but well, maybe it’s just me   My other theory was that he didn’t received much affection signs when he was younger, and that’s why he isn’t used to them, but I much prefer my first theory, it’s more probable and it would make him even cutier!
Hehe I giggled when you said "don't blame me for having a crush on a vacuum", I liked that phrase very much, and also what you said about forgetting he's a vacuum, cos I know what you meant my friend! When people think on a character to love, people usually make much emphasis on if they're humans, or at least the chose characters that have a human looking (or at least a bit of it) but the true it's, and some of them find weird when you like a non human character, my dad does that always  he say my fave characters are monster cos mos of them they’r sci-fi/fantasy chatacters, not humans. It doesn't matter if a character is human or not, because it's the personality it’s what appeals to you! :D In my case that it’s a FACT, when I see a character, the personality is what makes me love or like or dislike them, I almost don’t pay attention in if he’s an human, an alien, or an appliance in the case of these characters, cos what I love most it’s the personality! It’s that counts the most! That’s what makes us love Kirby, or for example Archibald Asparagus! Although he’s an Asparagus, he really appeals so much to me! For his refined and cute personality and his accent :aww:

Yes, I like your first theory about Kirby! I think that's exactly what he's like.

And don't worry about your Dad not understanding liking non-human characters... not everyone can see people for who they really are, that's a gift not everyone has

Man I love that movie, I still have it.
I have a favorite part from the first one:
Toaster: I think it would be helpful to have someone to come along who's really strong.
Lampy: And loud.
Blankie: And grumpy.
Radio: And oblivious to reality.

Awesome line, remember this one

The Radio: Boy, are we glad to see you!
Lampy: Yeah. I really thought I'd turned in my warranty that time.
The Radio: Until baggy here showed up!
Kirby: I just slipped and fell in. That's all.
Lampy: [laughing] Oh, yeah, sure, right.
Blanky: You can't fool us. We love you.
The Radio: That's right, like Mrs. Roosevelt loved her husband.
Kirby: Yeah, yeah. Well, here's the shore. Everybody off.
The Radio: Listen to this! This is President Roosevelt awarding the vaccum the medal of honor!

I've seen those movies too, and I think the reason kid movies like those aren't made anymore is because the audience has changed from what it was back then.
Also, good work on the HeartBlade. Took me to figure out its components, but I see what it is now.
Anyway, keep up the good work.

It is. Especially since I was born before "the change" began, and I'd had to watch as everyone's morals around me steadily sloped downward (because that's what has happened from my perspective). It was really depressing, because aside from the adults, it made me feel very alone and isolated. Much like Gaara, Master Chief, Vincent Valentine, etc.
The only reason I'm not including myself is because I feel like I'm one of those "should've been born in a different time" people. I atest to that because of the lack of stupid thing's I've done in the past. That and because I have a theory that my frontal lobe developed sooner (the decision-making part of your brain that doesn't fully develop until you're 20-21).
I'm just glad there are other people who have noticed "the change" beside me, otherwise I'd feel even more isolated.

It mostly seems to me that all the movies made for kids today place emphasis on the quick and the stupid... taking kids to the movies is torture for parents now adays... they've forgotten that movies like Beauty and the Beast were recognized by the Academy Awards for quality beyond mere technical shine.

I see. I've also noticed nearly every new movie is real-action with either CGI (either partially or whole), or lots of stunts & explosions. I've barely seen any animated movies come out.
Just because something's old doesn't mean it isn't good anymore.
