What's Fire Good for?

Dinner

This is Bastian, he's from my book, and i've been trying really hard to get interested in him, because he's really important to the plot and I'm just not that excited about him because he's barely in it right now.

He's travelling alone, which means I can't have conversations with him, which always helps my attraction to characters, and he's a fairly internal person so he wouldn't say that much anyway. So I decided to make a little brainstorm series of Bastian on the road... what does he do? He does he do it?

The deal with Bastian is that he's grown up being able to use the five elements however he wants, so I figure he's used to them enough that they're like another set of hands... and he probably uses them for small jobs not necissarily worthy of tapping the blood of the earth for... like cooking ^^ I plan on doing five of these... one for each element.

And in case you're curious, this is helping me grow more attached to him ^^

And the background sucks, I tried about a million things, and this is the best I could do.

Edit:
I've put up a new background... The other one still exists... I might put it in scraps and see which one is better. I like this better because its simpler... but the other one was agood becuase it gave a location.

I've changed it back now, after some outside input from a couple people ^^ The scrap is deleted

darn, it's so much time I don't come on DA that I lost so much important stuff from my friends T___T *sigh*

Anyways, the drawing is awesome, and the pose is very natural and yet dynamic. Lovely! :3

"Yes he's my character, but sometimes characters behave on their own. A good character, one that really stands out, has his own life in a way. There are certain things he would or wouldn't do or would or wouldn't say. For example, I've written situations where the characters said or did everything I'd planned for them in the plot, but their interaction didn't feel right, so I'd have to go back in and change it until I felt more comfortable with their characters. Once I needed my party of characters to go into a dangerous situation to hit a plot point, but they couldn't see a reason and vehemently did NOT want to go, so it took a little reworking to pull it off. Literature does have a life of its own."

I love it when my characters have that kind of action in my mind. I was recently working on a story and it was an introduction that occured between two characters who will later be of romantic interest to one another. I was planning for sort of a cat and mouse thing but apparently one of them disagreed and the next thing I know they're having lunch. *laughter* As far as getting to know the character I have the tendency to encourage mine to talk to themselves or the environment. It is hard when they're travelling alone. Maybe you could have him pass through a town? That helped greatly when working with one of my main characters.

Aww. Such a cutie. It always helps to have more refs. I must tell you though- Peter's limbs absolutely ELUDE me. Though, that isn't to say I've given up. By the by, should I work on some Achi refs?
