What is "The Reason Gale Wears a Hood"?

So I've picked Digital Devil Saga up again after a couple years' hiatus. I was on the last level and I did a poor job of raising my characters so I got frustrated and stopped. And there were other reasons too but I won't get into that. Point being, I loved Gale. I loved Gale very much... maybe it was the fact that we got to watch his personality emerge, maybe because he was the outcast of the group by no fault of his own, maybe it was because he struggled with the anomaly of not comprehending things when his purpose in life was to study and strategically understand his environment therefore raising questions about who he was and why he was not experiencing the same changes in emotion and motivation as his teammates. I can identify a lot with him sometimes.

Digital Devil Saga. It's sexy. Its stylized. It has cannibalism. I suggest RPG fans play it. It's good enough to tear me away from Balthier long enough to try and finish the final level.

Edit
Hah, who'd have thought the majority of the comments on this pic would be about Steve Blum ^^ But I have seen the error of my ways. I'm sorry Steve, I do love you as Gale. I promise to no longer badmouth you as long as you promise to keep sneaking into my favorite games and taking me by surprise.
pps.... play Psychonauts

I love DDS and Gale is my favorite of the characters also ^.^
It was interesting seeing the most awkward of the entire group slowly come out of his shell and end up having the most to say emotionally later in the game. There is probably a lot of symbolism you could find in there also.

Makes me wish there were more mature RPGs that can succeed at being epic like this one was :\
anyways, great job :D

I know I answer very late. I know your question do not need any answer since it is obvious.
But yes Gale is just an amazing character and Cielo (that I also own in my heart) is an amazing retarded.
Recently, Shizuku showed me a drawing of Cielo with a clothe designed in the color of Dyaus, the icon of the artist seemed familiar and when I check the gallery I OC recognized this pict. I just wanted to let you know that I like the way you talk about Gale, and I higltly appreciate the simple fact that you're not someone who wishes to see a yaoi porn about him. It's really rare someone who loves him for his personality and not for his dick eventhough he is well built >.> .
It's really rare when I feel attachment to a character, all the more when it is a human.
DDS gave me Gale and Cielo, how skilled XD. The others are also good (even that crapHeat).
I dislike romance usualy , but his sentiment for Jenna (partialy because of David memory) owns a valuable and trustful romantism. Tout son être est beau.
Ironicaly the first moment I 've noticed him , it was at my friend house, it was the scene where he gets killed by Jenna. My friend felt very sad, in my way I paid no care for that.
And the second time I saw it, in my house, I couldn't avoid to cry.
(Since you seem to love this guy for who he is I was thinking I could share this with you.) *ahem*

^^ Yes, thank you for sharing! You're right, it is rare to find fellow TRUE fans, and by that I mean people who pay attention to who well-made characters are on the inside instead of forcing them into situations that they typically wouldn't be in... like down another man's throat. I really love DDS for its character development, and there's not a character in there that I don't like for one reason or another... I mean, even Bat and Mick, because even if they were villians, there was a certain degree of vulnerability to them. It was a great game.

aaaw, I love this pic *__* I love Gale for the same reasons you explained above and I'm glad someone else expressed it for me. He's an amazing character... and imo Steve Blum did a wonderful job with his voice, but I think I had never listened any of his works before (used to spanish, that's the reason of my weird english xD) so I can't really have a complete opinion about that..

Anyway, sorry for the long message ^^ loved the pic!

get Serph and Heat to learn null element! lol and make sure all your characters can void their weaknesses. yeah.... i also gave up on that game for about a year and then finally beat it. at the end, i kept running from almost every battle so i had to level up for 5 hours before i could beat the end guy. but it is a really good game.

Oh good! That's my strategy! Including the running from battles ^^ I'm training everyone to void their weaknesses and get the null status affects. Its taking a long time, but I'm pleased to see the money pour in so fast in the Karma Temple. I've trapped myself in a little room at 10000ft. I spent two hours today running in circles by the save point

Gale is my all-time favorite DDS character.
I love him so much :aww:
And, for once, I finally find a dashing picture of him :)
I love this - it's very nice ^^

I love Steve Blum, and I think his voice fit Gale nicely...
But I love Mr. Blum for his other roles too.
But, I know you feel the opposite.

Not opposite. Just less. I agree, I really liked him as Gale, and I really liked him as Spike... and there are other roles that he's done a good job in... I didn't like him as Vincent, and I didn't like him as whatsisface in The Big O. Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with him. Spike is my favorite role of his bar none, even if I really love Gale, Spike was perfect for him, and he said it too. I the interview with him on the movie DVD he said he's been waiting his whole career for a character like Spike to come along, he even said he wanted to be like Spike. I think I can hear how much he loves his character through his performance. Perhaps the roles I like him best in he likes best too, and the ones that sound like just another Steve Blum role are actually just another Steve Blum role. Follow me?

I have no hate in my heart at all for the man, trust me on this.

I get it
That's so interesting :)
I didn't know he said that about Spike.
I think another good character he did was Zegram Ghast, from Rogue Galaxy.
I thought Vincent's voice was a little too deep.
I mean, Blum still could have been Vince...
But... maybe perhaps not so deep?

That's good to hear :aww:
I didn't know this until last year, but Mr. Blum has been in a lot of kid shows I've grown up on. I love him so much.

I've never seen Rogue Galaxy, I'll have to check it out. And I'll admit, I haven't been keeping up with his newer stuff, I've fallen in more with video games than anime in the recent years. What old shows did he play in? He might prove me wrong ^^

It's a pretty fun game. It's kind of a half-childish, half-teenagerish game though.
(Except the main character thinks he's so tough when he says the next level of 'darn' all the time)

Anime has betrayed me.
Video games are the way to go.
He's been in Digimon for a long while
He's been TOM from Toonami for the longest time. I'm not sure if he still is or not though...
He was in FF12 recently :)
Aaaaand in the Pirates of the Carribean games and...
Uh...

Okay Blum's forgiven. I had no idea he was bgamnan. I also am pleased to find him stuck in Halo. I knew he was in Psychonauts and I'm very sincerely sorry I forgot to add that to my approval list, and as I recall I was even pleased to recognize his voice in that game. So I guess I spoke too soon against the Steve Blum, I offer him my apologies

Are they planning to? Because that would be sweet... even though I already own it for the PS2 and don't have a PSP. Mostly I'd be pleased with the greater publicity.
They should put Beyond Good ad EVil on PSP... and Psychonauts

I dont think so its still to new just any of the great SGT' s games would appease my cravings
beyond good and evil and psyconauts would be freaking awsome but i dont think microsoft being the pansys there being lately would go with that idea ( at this time)
truth is i dont have a PS2 i usually go over to my friends (uhobi ,look her up here on DA) place and play it with her for hours i dont know its just his style and storys that get me rivited

The PS2 is still a really strong machine. Theyre still making games for it (sparingly) even after the PS3 has come out and the library on the thing is formidable! My younger sister was going to buy one for herself when she realized she could play guitar hero on them for way cheaper than buying herself a 360... of course after she's purchased all three games and the peripherals it won't be cheap by a long shot, but cheaper yes.

I like Steve Blum fine... I loved him as Spike... but unfortunately he can't change his voice at all and I find it a little distracting. I run across a character with Steve's voice and I'm like "You're the Steve Blum of today!" But that game is full of those. Wendy is in it too... and so is Crispin if I'm not mistaken.

I know atleast two seperate voices he makes for certain; The Mugen [Samurai Champloo] kind and the Vincent Valentine [FFVII] // Lord Darcia [Wolfs Rain] one. ^^; Then I think he's been in minor character roles that I can't tell from... =P

And by Crispin do you mean Crispin Freeman a.k.a Rude? =3

Yes I mean Crispin Freeman. And Steve is in tons of stuff... like way tons. He's Spike from Cowboy Bebop, and Roger from The Big O, and he was the GMen in Psychonauts and Tom from Cartoon Network's Toonnami shorts. Look him up on IMDB, his credit list is long as my arm.

Draw lots of menz and you will grow your own skill ^^ I praise the fact that I'm a straight college-age girl for the fact that I've taught myself to draw mens' torsos.

And its a PS2 game. There are two of them actually that directly relate to one another. I've got to finish 1 before I start 2 thought, because my status points and story-driven decisions carry over and affect the outcome of DDS2
