Just a scribble in opencanvas or on paper. Sketch commissions are 5 dollars a character but I'll also accept 400 Deviantart points per character. This is the only commission option that accepts DA points!

I've got ten days left before this Alaska trip. Anyone want anything drawn for them?

So I'm taking a trip to Alaska in early March. It's a favor to my sister who's dream is to someday live in Anchorage. I'd like to be able to fund some fun stuff for us to do, so I'm knocking my commission prices down five bucks between now and the day I leave! The deduction only counts on orders 10 bucks or more - so a $10 commission is only 5, a $20 one is 15 and so on! Here's prices:

1 character: $5 with $5 bucks for additional characters. As a bonus I'll include linearts or PSDs for anyone wanting to color theirs theselves!

I've decided to leave commissions open for the next couple months, so If anyone's interested in ordering art from me, send a NOTE with your request. I accept payment up front via paypal. Commissions will be completed in the order that I get them, but do tell me if it's for an occasion so I know how to pace myself.

Elaborate props (ie; a specific car, or a mound of cats) may up the price. Cost will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Same for elaborate armors or things that will require a lot of intricate detail.

Print services - you can order an 8/10 and have it mailed to you for $10. If you want to print it out yourself at, say, fedex or something, talk to me and we'll work out a written permission slip.

All payment accepted through paypal. No point commissions, sorry. Maybe another time.

Hey, I've been thinking of ways to earn some extra dough to fund #Threadcaster. It takes a lot of my time, but I had the thought of perhaps opening an Etsy store with nerd-themed paintings and crafts. I feel like there are a thousand and a half of those, but if I can do it in an interesting way perhaps I could earn some money?

So I thought before I sunk any dough into this I would play the field. How do you guys like Etsy? Have any of you used it with success? What about DA prints? Have you had any success with those? General query and etc.

ALSO: I've made a bunch of 0051 art available as prints. I'll be adding to the list over time, so if you have any requests lemme know. I can't put any of the art that features the Chief's armor (or probably Cortana) but the original characters and Maskless John are free game.

Probably myself -_- I'm always getting myself in trouble. Actually my worst enemy is probably the Holy Calligraphers - they're the worst.

Pete and the Calligraphers? Most likely murder. Actually definitely murder... that's the whole reason we left town.

Yo all, just an opinion piece.

So I was thinking - I love my Halo fic; Castaways. It's one of my most highly reviewed fics and one of my personal favorites. I also think it's really well written. It's been on DA, FF.net and a portion on Halo.Bungie.org for a long time.

Thing is, since the fic is a sequel to Halo3, when Halo4 comes out the events of said story will be rendered moot. That of course doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the fic itself... some will swear up and down that the 343 trilogy is AU anyway because of canon interference... but it gives me a thought.

I think the fic is well enough written to be a novella. I'd have to change it around a bit - change some names, find a new explanation for a construct like Cortana existing and giving the Chief a different but similar backstory - But I think it's entirely feasible. Unfortunately the only way to actually shop a novella like this is to rip all the fanfics off the internet and submit to literary magazines and contests. I'll have a piece of original (if heavily heavily influences) work on my shelf but also a much narrower audience for it.

So the question is; is losing the Halo soul of the fic and stealing it away from hundreds of people's favorites galleries worth that? Technically if it stays close enough to its fanfic source material it's already lost first publication rights anyway. There's the chance of adding some more guts to it and turning it into a full novel, but it's 35,000 words - not nearly enough for publication (Publication likes things to be at least 80,000).

So I know what I'm kind of leaning toward but I want to hear opinions. With Threadcaster kind of wrapping up here soon, it might be fun to do some scifi retooling in the interum.

My review of the game:

LOVED IT. Such a good game, I loved about 95% of it ... the other 5% I'll get to in a minute. For now this is an unspoiled report and I say - if you love Mass Effect you should play the game right away. It develops all the plotlines we care about and resolves most of them very well. The gameplay is tight and varied (although it could have been moreso) and the new RPG elements are an improvement over ME2.

Those who know me know I am a Wrex fangirl through and through and I was not disappointed The resolution of the post-krogan-rebellion storyline was a fine bit of writing and the highlight of the game for me. I daresay those scenes were written especially for me, because Bioware could probably hear my joyful squealing all the way in Canada.

Now the 5% I didn't like - Listed here and therefore are also spoilers. No ending spoilers though, I'll hide that in a link-through for those not finished yet.

1, That freakin child.

The boy in the duct in the first mission is a shoe-horned over-used transparent gimmick that sucked me out of the story. Children are innocent and therefore their deaths are more tragic, but when that child is 1, in a human-sized duct like Aliens, and 2, written with the clunkiest most un-childlike dialog I've ever heard it breaks my immersion. If the game wanted to make the fight personal, it should have killed a character we cared about, or done something particularly moving instead of pulling the frayed heartstrings of the audience with a fish-hook like "child murder" that's as bad as killing the dog. It resorts to gimmicks instead of emotions.

2, The sticky cover system

It killed me more often than any monster

3, Space Ninjas

Why did there have to be ninjas? I know Ninjas are cool - but sword fighting feels so out of place in this third-person shooter full of lasers. Plus those Phantom soldiers can bite my shiny armored ass.

4, Romance Options

I was hoping for a sexy new romance option for 3. I broke up with Garrus just in case there was a good one and I found nobody -_- nobody to my liking anyway. Then at the very end when I had no love interest to reflect on apparently the game thought I romanced Liara... Um... no, I didn't. I should have been reminiscing about Wrex! Oh man, that would have been the best thing ever!

5, The Ending.

I wrote a tumblr blog about  the ending and why I don't think it's Satan incarnate : [link] but short-hand and unspoilered I was a little disappointed, but I can see what they did there. I still would have liked a chance to get my shiny parade ending with toasts and confetti and the works (because I'm a sucker) but I can understand what they did instead.

at the very least can we at least get a Star Trek 3 ending? I would have been satisfied with that.

I've been busy recently. I realized a couple nights ago that I haven't drawn a decent bit of fanart that hasn't been paid for - something I, myself, wanted to draw - in months. This isn't necessarily a bad thing - but networking, client work, writing a novel, making iOS games and a social life have me moving so fast my head is spinning. It's all I can do to eek out a 0051 page while I'm watching Project Runway every week.

I'm posting a journal to tell everyone that this new pattern of too-busy-to-do-anything will undoubtedly continue, but coming to DA and reading everyone's comments and seeing all the deviations is relaxation for me, so while I don't really have the time to participate as much as I used to, I'm here and I'm around. Thanks you guys for being a welcome little distraction and apologies for consistently missing 0051 deadlines and putting my commission work off for months and months while I work on client things. Your patience is very very appreciated.

Alright, back to work. I've got page 301 half inked - I hope to finish it sometime this weekend.

I officially have 2000 deviations. That's kind of maddening... I mean it took me seven years... but that's a lot of hosted pictures on this site.

I think now is a time or reflection. For fun (and if you remember) tell me what the first pic you saw of mine was? Or what image drew you to watch me? What did you watch me for?

You all have been with me from my time as a wimpering neophyte to my career as a full-fledged professional artist painting pictures for money. I hope you've enjoyed the ride... and thank you all for your support! There are so many times that I sat down to draw specifically for my watchers even when the muse was dead. I'm sorry I haven't had a lot of time for art in the last few months.

In the same vein I have a childrens' book coming out this holiday season. I'll keep you all posted with details but it's looking real cute. I was hired by a local author and if he sells enough copies we may collaborate again in the future.
